COVID-19 Update

    The City of Tracy takes the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, visitors and community very seriously. Based on guidance from Federal, State and local authorities, the City has taken necessary precautions to adhere to the recommendations of these agencies in order to limit the spread of COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health and the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, along with CalOSHA, have provided guidance related to COVID-19 community health and safety measures.

    About Veronica

    Mrs. Veronica Vargas was elected to the Tracy City Council in November 2014. Mrs. Vargas is a native Argentinian and the second oldest of five children. Believing Tracy was the perfect place to live and raise children, her family moved to the city in 1998. Veronica resides in Tracy with her husband Patrick, and they are the proud parents of six children.Veronica has been active in the community over the past decades. She was the Chairperson for the  Tracy Planning Commissioner before taking her elected seat with the Tracy City Council.
     
    Prior to her appointment to the Planning Commission, she was the Chairwoman for Measure E Oversight Residential Committee and a soccer coach for the Tracy Youth Soccer League.
     
    Previously, Veronica was a Booster Board member at Central Catholic High School. Currently she serves on the following boards/committees:

    📌 Fiscal Sustainability – One of two Council members serving on the Sustainability Ad-Hoc Committee with Councilmember Arriola, on financial sustainability. Our goal is to have a balance budget and bring our city from the structural deficit.

    📌 Homelessness – This Homelessness Strategic Plan outlines an ongoing comprehensive strategy to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in the City of Tracy. The direction and goals included in this plan build upon the recent progress the City has made towards ending homelessness while also recognizing new practices, emerging challenges, and opportunities to develop a system that uses all available resources to house people experiencing homelessness.     📌 Traffic/Congestion – I was one of the founding members of the ValleyLink project. The project is a long-range planning and urban design study that is evaluating how the introduction of commuter rail service, via Tri-Valley Regional Rail Authority’s planned ValleyLink line. I worked successfully to update the master plan for bikes which resulted in establishing the green bike lanes and I am been working to improve amenities at our municipal airport and have successfully lobby for several grants which resulted in funding for new taxiways and new equipment.     📌 Infrastructure/Transportation Projects – I have worked on several projects like the new 11th street overpass. We just received a $25M grant for a new HWY 580 bridge. I’m continually working on improving congestion and traffic issues within our city as well as in our region and state. I spearheaded and implemented the first effort for broadband 6 years ago as the city made repairs or install new roads while laying down new network cable conduit. As vice-chair of the Transportation, Communications, and Public Works Policy Committee of the CA Leagues of Cities, I will make sure Tracy’s interests are part of the discussion. Transportation, infrastructure improvements, telecommunications, broadband deployment, bike safety and other issues are discussed and to influence policy in Sacramento as well as in Washington DC with advice and recommendations to the legislature.
